A lot of my work has made its way onto the main blog, but here are a few pieces of work that don’t fit the blog but might be of interest to some:

Plans

  • City of Adel Downtown Plan – Editor and Layout Designer
    • I was involved in the Adel Downtown plan from the very start, writing and issuing surveys both online and in person at the Adel Sweet Corn Festival.
    • Although I was officially the editor and layout designer, I did a significant amount of work on the plan itself, including the introductory chapter, several sections of later chapters, and notable edits and adjustments throughout. I also created the majority of the graphics throughout the document.
    • The plan was accepted in March 2020, and later awarded the APA Iowa 2020 Exemplary Student Project Award.
  • Expanding Access to Quality Affordable Housing in Grand Junction, Iowa
    • With an excellent group of fellow CRP students in a studio course, I helped create this set of proposals for quality affordable housing in a small town in Iowa.
    • The project was awarded the APA Iowa 2021 Exemplary Student Project Award.

Writing

  • Means Are Ends Are Means
    • An essay produced in my planning theory course. A more formal writing project than Urban Utopias that still showcases my communication skills.
  • Blue Infrastructure Literature Review
    • A review of existing blue infrastructure research, completed for Prof. Mônica Haddad.
  • Staff Report and Appeal: Willet Apartments
    • Two staff reports regarding a major affordable housing project in Tillamook, OR. This project was appealed by neighborhood residents. The first report covers standards for the initial review by the Planning Commission, while the second covers standards for the appeal review by the City Council. Conditions of approval and standards balance developer rights and overall community needs with the needs of nearby residents. The project was approved by the City Council, and opened its doors on June 29, 2023. The layout and formatting are also my design.
  • Memo: Updated City Property Event Process
    • A brief memo intended for a wide audience establishing and communicating new standards for a city program.
  • Pre-Application Report: Emergency Shelter Siting
    • A report written to provide guidance for a new development application, combining state and local regulations to identify appropriate requirements and next steps. The layout and formatting are also my design.
  • Staff Report: Flood Hazard Regulations
    • A detailed staff report recommending comprehensive updates to the City of Tillamook flood hazard regulations. The proposed language itself has been organized and, in some cases, developed, by me. The layout and formatting are also my design.
  • Transgender Awareness Week 2023 Proclamation
    • I substantially rewrote the proclamation used in prior years, updating it with the most recent data and reorganizing to allow for a more timely and impactful proclamation. I was also chosen to read the proclamation before the Washington County Board of Commissioners.

Programming

  • RStudio Sample
    • A sample of my RStudio work for my Data Analysis course. The sample draws on US Census data to develop and design graphs showcasing demographic information about Seattle, WA.

GIS

  • City of Tillamook Zoning Map
    • Tillamook’s first complete GIS zoning map, including both euclidean zoning and environmental overlays, such as flood maps, wetlands, and more.
  • Equity of Historic Preservation in Iowa
    • This was my final project in my Intermediate GIS course. It is an overview comparing the density of historic properties and socioeconomic data in two Iowa counties.
